Ridgewood High School junior, Domenica Ferdinardo, was chosen to serve on the Illinois State Board of Education Student Advisory Council (ISBE SAC) for the 2018-2019 school year. Ferdinardo applied for this position and was selected as one of 20 students in the state to be chosen.
The SAC was formed in 1975 and is selected from a group of motivated high school applicants. This diverse group is composed of students across the state of Illinois to voice their concerns to the Illinois State Board of Education. The SAC meets once a month from September to April.
Ferdinardo has been an active leader at Ridgewood for the past three years. She is on the Student Council Executive Board, the NED board, president of FBLA and is a member of DECA, LINK Crew, Mathletes and has taken private piano lessons for 6 years.
Domenica is eager to represent the students of Ridgewood High School and surrounding areas as an active participant on this state-level advisory council.
“I applied because I want to help improve education in Illinois and I thought it would be a good board to be a part of. I’ve always had a passion for education and law, so why not take this great opportunity to go to Springfield and work with policy makers” said Ferdinardo.
Over the course of the next year, the students on the Student Advisory Council will develop a policy proposal to present to the Illinois State Board of Education on March 20, 2019.
